The Important monument of the city was built in the year 1921. It was built in the memorial of 80,000 Indian soldiers who were killed during world war l.
The monument was designed by renowned architect Edwin Lutyens. India gate was formerly known as ‘All India War Memorial’. The India Gate is known to have a similar appearance to that of Arc de Triomphe in Paris, France.
The names of more than 70000 soldiers are inscribed on the walls of this prestigious monument. There is a doomed bowl that is filled with burning oil and is lit on special occasions.
Another such memorial is known as the ‘Amar Jawan Jyoti’ which was added after independence is at the base of the monument. The flame is lit for eternity as a commemoration for soldiers who sacrificed their lives for this nation.
